Synopsis of Rules and Regulations, Sandown Cemeteries

The following rules and regulations shall be observed and enforced in this Cemetery:

  1. No lots shall be sold without perpetual care. The cost of said lots shall be as follows: (A) Single lots shall be including p.c. (B) Double lots shall be including p.c. (C) Four grave lots shall be including p.c. All moneys from the sale of said lots shall be turned over to Trustees of trust funds and credited to Cemetery trust funds. The interest only from moneys so invested in conjunction with such moneys as may be raised by appropriation and cemetery maintenance trust funds shall be used for the maintenance of said Cemetery.
  2. All lots shall be sold consecutively as to section.  Sect. A 1-2-3, B 1-2-3, etc., not at random throughout the Cemetery.
  3. Reservations will be made only on a deposit of $10.00 and the balance in six months, but not deed shall be issued until final payment is made.  
  4. Only one burial can be made in a lot until the deed is issued and this is subject to immediate removal by order of the Trustees upon failure to comply with the conditions of sale and said lot shall be forfeited with all moneys that may have been paid thereon. The Trustees may cause the body that has been interned to be removed to such section of the Cemetery as may be selected by them.
  5. No grave shall be opened for internment or removal by any person or persons other than the Sexton or someone in his employ.
  6. No person other than the owner, except the Sexton or his employees, shall be allowed to perform any work on any lot or parcel of ground within the Cemetery without a permit from the Sexton. Therefore all work done on lots except by the owner must be done by the Sexton or someone employed by him and under his supervision.
  7. No owner or other person shall be allowed to maintain a lot at any other grade or cause the same to be graded in any other manner than that established by the Trustees. The sexton is authorized to grade lots, furnish materials and perform any other labor thereon which the owner may desire. Applications for materials and labor must be made in writing to the Sexton who may contract for annual care of lots.
  8. No monument, headstone, curbing or other structure will be allowed to be erected unless it rests on a foundation built of solid masonry with good cement or mortar and from 2 to 6 feet deep, and finished 2 inches below grade as the Sexton shall direct, unless the Sexton, with the approval of the Trustees, grants special permission in writing to erect small stones upon a less substantial foundation. Only one monument will be allowed to a lot.
  9. No tablet or other device of wood, fences or hedges are permitted.
  10. No curbings around lots, corner posts above grade, platforms, urns, steps or buttresses will be allowed, except by approval of the Trustees.
  11. Markers with rough butts must extend at least one foot into the ground and be dressed on the lower end as to stand plumb on level foundations. Monuments or markers are not allowed until lot is paid for in full.
  12. Flowers, wreaths, flags, etc., left on the graves of lots will be removed as soon as possible after they fade.
  13. Trees, shrubs or flowers that may be donated shall not be planted on lots but may be planted on land provided for same by Trustees.
  14. No internments shall be made without the use of a so-called liner or vault.
  15. The Sexton having care of the Cemetery is authorized to remove all persons who violate Cemetery regulations and is directed to cause the violators of the laws to be prosecuted.
  16. Lot owners, who have received their lots from former owners by permission of Trustees only, must be sure said deed is properly recorded with Cemetery officials, otherwise such ownership can not be recognized.
  17. Persons wishing to convey the whole or any part of their interest in any lot shall procure blank deeds from the Trustees who on application will make and record the deeds if parties desire and pay for the same. Trustees shall have priority in purchasing these lots.
  18. These rules and regulations are subject to amendments at any regular town meeting.
