About Us

The Sandown Patrolmen’s Association was formed in the 1980s by the members of the Sandown Police Department under then Chief James Comerford. The purpose of the Association was and is to provide relief to its members and support to the community. Membership was made up of officers of the Sandown Police Department who wished to join. Along the way, through fund raising efforts and specifically earmarked donations, a scholarship fund was established in 2008 for $500.00.

Scholarships are awarded each year to eligible Sandown students or an Association member's child. In 2009 members voted to establish the John Lapham Scholarship and raise the amount to $650.00. In 2010 members voted to raise the amount of the John Lapham Scholarship to $1000.00. John Laphamwas an officer with the Sandown Police Department who died in 2008 from complications from Leukemia. The scholarship will be awarded every year to a graduating Timberlane Regional High School senior. This person must be a resident of Sandown and will be attending college in a Criminal Justice or related major. The Sandown Patrolmen's Association would like to thank John's wife Amy, and their two sons Matthew and Justin for allowing us to name our scholarship in memory of John.

Today, the Association remains much the same as it was at its inception, with the membership open to all members of the Sandown Police Department, but now includes retired members. In the past, we have always relied on donations or proceeds from our own fundraising efforts to generate enough income to be able to support local charities and community events. However, with the decline in interest rates and the present state of the economy, we will be using professional fund raising organizations to assist us in raising funding to support our Scholarship Program and continue to give to local charities. Additionally, we try to provide financial assistance to any Sandown Officer or other law enforcement officers in their time of need.

Don’t forget, whatever you give to the Sandown Patrolmen’s Association is fully tax-deductible!
