A Velocipede is a man propelled railroad maintenance vehicle. The Velocipede pictured here was built circa 1913 and was used by railroad workers for maintenance of the line. This vehicle contained an oil barrel behind the driver (missing from picture) which the workmen would use to refill the signal lights along the rail.
