Per RSA 466:1 Every owner or keeper of a dog 4 months old or over shall annually, cause it to be registered, numbered, described, and licensed for one year in the office of the clerk of the town in which the dog is kept.  Regardless of when the license is obtained, the license shall be effective from May 1 of each year to April 30 of the subsequent year.

Simply put all dogs must be registered by April 30^th.  We can start to register dogs anytime after January 1^st but they must be done by April 30^th.  We must have a current rabies certificate on file.  If you get a dog after April 30^th you still must register them for the remainder of the year.  Fees are as follows:

Spayed or Neutered              $ 6.50

Unaltered                            $ 9.00

Citizen over 65                    $ 2.00 – For first dog only

Kennel – 5 or more            $ 20.00

The veterinarian per RSA 436:102 shall send within 40 days a copy of the rabies certificate to the Town Clerk where the dog is kept.  It is always a good idea to bring a copy with you in case we haven’t received it from the veterinarian yet.  You can always call ahead to make sure we have a current one on file.  

We understand that sometimes in our busy lives registering the dog is at the bottom of the list.  We do try to make every effort to remind you that the deadline is April 30^th.  We send out notices at the beginning of the year and then we do try to call as a reminder after April 30^th.  If you still do not register your dog we then by law have to issue a civil forfeiture fine of $25.00.  This will be served to you by the Sandown Police Department.

Please call to inform us if there are any changes.  This saves a call reminding you to register a dog you no longer have.
