Meeting Minutes 2007

The Communication & Technology Task Force was in place to serve these primary functions:

Management of the Town Website:  The Communication & Technology Task Force will be overseeing the management of the Town website.

Technology Consulting: The Task Force is also in place to watch out for the town’s best interest, and this was a primary motivation for the BOS to mobilize the group. The team will provide technology counsel to town departments and will help assess hardware and software requirements across all groups. Research, conducted on a per-project basis, combined with existing expertise across the team, allows the Task Force to provide the Board of Selectmen with recommendations that outline plans that can accomplish what is best for the town. With this team in place, technology professionals may submit recommendations and bids to the town and there will be a body available to interpret exactly what it is we are getting into, or being sold.

Special Projects: In addition to the primary functions of the group the Task Force is also involved with special projects as needed. Currently this includes:

  • Town Email Project: In keeping with ‘best practices’ and a practical approach to official town communications, the Board of Selectmen has asked the Communication & Technology Task Force to initiate a project where all official town bodies utilize a single email schema.    All email communications now utilize a name@sandown.us or department@sandown.us nomenclature and this will simplify email communications within the community.

  • Town Hall Audio Project: During regularly scheduled Board of Selectmen’s meetings, those who attend in person are unable to hear the dialogue that takes place at the Selectmen’s’ table.  Although microphones are placed at key locations, the audio is not amplified and fed to speakers in the meeting area. However, a controlled audio feed is provided to the Channel 17 broadcast deck and subsequently heard by those who watch the selectmen’s meetings during live broadcast, or in replay. The Task Force, working closely with the Cable Advisory Board, is researching ways to solve this. The two groups working together plan to provide live amplified audio within the meeting space in the near future.
